Coal, coal seam gas (CSG) and liqueified natural gas (LNG)

The development of energy resources in the Surat Basin (Darling Downs and South West Queensland region) and associated LNG projects in the Gladstone (Fitzroy and Central West Queensland) region will provide major regional supply chain opportunities for Queensland business and industry. In the Surat Basin, coal production and CSG is expected to increase ten-fold by 2031, resulting in a doubling of GRP and 12,000 direct new jobs. Associated LNG exports through Gladstone are also expected to increase Gross State Product to over $3 billion, create over 18,000 direct and indirect jobs in Queensland and provide annual royalty returns of over $850 million.

Further information on LNG and other mining technologies and services can be found on the Department's key industries pages.
